Cookridge & Horsforth U3A

Our U3A was launched in November 2008 and we now have almost 400 members and over fifty Interest Groups or short courses. Our members come from Otley, Rawdon, Headingley, Adel, Bramhope and Guiseley as well as Cookridge and Horsforth.

Our aim is to provide shared intellectual, social and leisure activities for people in the Third Age of life. Anyone no longer engaged in full time employment is very welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings without obligation to join.

Why not come along? - learn new subjects and skills, develop new hobbies and make new friends. Please go to the Join Us page, and enter your email address to enrol and pay online.  The Annual Membership Fee is £15.00 and membership runs from 1st April to 31st March each year.

Cookridge & Horsforth, and Leeds U3As have agreed to open up general meetings to members of each of our U3As, provided there’s space in the meeting room. It may also be possible for our members to join Interest Groups in the other U3A, although that will depend on the Leader of the Group concerned. If you do attend meetings at the other U3A, you will need to produce a current CHU3A Membership Card or renewal receipt. This arrangement applies only to LEEDS U3A.

Reminder : all membership is due for renewal on 1st April 2019 regardless of when you joined during the year.  You may pay on line by logging onto your Profile on the website, or by cheque for £15 made payable to Cookridge and Horsforth U3A.

We need your help

The U3A is a self-help organisation run entirely by volunteers.

How can you help?

  • More people are urgently needed to help with the setting out and clearing away of chairs, etc at general meetings.  Please volunteer!

  • Do you have an unusual or interesting hobby which you could speak on at a general meeting?

  • Could you help with administration tasks including typing, mail shots, folding newsletters, etc.

  • Do you have IT skills which you could offer, such as word processing, using a spreadsheet, DTP or helping with the website

  • Would you like to share your own interests or hobbies with fellow members and maybe form or host an Interest Group?

  • Could you help with refreshments at meetings?

  • Could you be a "greeter" and welcome visitors and new members at meetings?

  • Would you be able to take on some additional responsibility as a member of the Committee of Trustees?

  • Members, please let us know if you have any medical qualifications.

Betty Pearson will be acting Chairman until the AGM in June, due to the resignation of Dominique Lodge for family reasons.  Christina Walsh offered at the general meeting on 4th March to act as Vice Chairman.

The Summer Social will now be held on Wednesday 19th June 10.30 in CVH.

We now have a new page under WHAT'S HAPPENING -"Members' News".  -Check it out to see what members have been up to!  The first item is about Carol Dowdeswell's granddaughter at the Special Olympics in Abu Dahbi, and the second is about Malcolm Johnson's appearance on Tipping Point!
