What Is The U3A

U3As are learning cooperatives which draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups in accordance with the wishes of the membership. The teachers learn and the learners teach.

Our U3A was launched in November 2008 and we now have nearly 400 members and over fifty Interest Groups or short courses. Our members come from all over the North West of Leeds and the surrounding area.

Our aim is to provide shared intellectual, social and leisure activities for people in the Third Age of life.

Why not join us? - learn new subjects and skills, develop new hobbies and make new friends. Please go to the Join Us page.

What's Available For Members

Monday meetings      We meet twice a month most of the year. Details of each meeting are in the Events page. We meet either at Cookridge Village Hall or at The Grove Centre, Horsforth.

Interest Groups         We have a wide variety of Interest Groups. Any member can start an interest group in a subject or activity that appeals to them whether they are an expert or total novice.

Visits and Excursions           From time to time, an Interest Group Leader or other member will organise a visit to a place of interest or day out.  Excursions have included Chatsworth at Christmas, Port Sunlight, Salford Quays and Whitby. The Theatre Group have tours of local theatres, as well as some group bookings for various performances. The Social Group have a wide variety of visits and activities.  Some short holidays may be arranged: these have recently included, Malta, Gardens of Ireland, and a Churchill Experience.  All events and visits are open to all members, not just the members of a particular group.
