Threads Textile Festival

22 Mar 2024 6:14 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

After last year’s successful launch of Threads we are doing it again but in June to avoid the Leeds Marathon! This year we will have a 3 days of talks, workshops and textile market in our iconic 1912 Mill.

The talks include subjects such as Japanese Sashiko, SE Asian Textiles, African Textiles. Our headline speaker is Lucy Adlington from the History Wardrobe with a talk on ‘Tracing Lost Lives’ which will link in with her latest book The Dressmakers of  Auschwitz. Our workshops include rag rugging, embroidery, crochet, natural dyeing, hand quilting, braid making, drop spindle, weaving, bargello, wet felting and Dorset buttons.

We are also thrilled to have Vanessa Marr giving a talk and a workshop on ‘Domestic Dusters: Embroidery as an act of resistance’. If anyone visited the Harrogate K&S Show last year you will have seen them hanging up and we are running the opportunity to embroider your own. Vanessa will also be part of our textile exhibition ‘Tangled Up’ which will be in the Gallery.

I have attached a flyer and a link to our website that I hope will  be of interest to your members. Please note that the booking for talks and workshops will open on 19th April via our website.

If you would like to bring a group we are able to accept a minibus drop off but please note that we can’t accommodate the parking. However, most buses will go to the local ASDA carpark until required.

If you need any further information please just get in touch.
