Please put the 29th November in your diary for this year's Christmas Trip. After much discussion we have decided to go to Burton Agnes. You will be able to wander through the decorated rooms and also walk in the gardens. Hope to see many of you there

The providers of our card payment reader have sent us an offer. If just one member pays with an American Express card using our machine during the months of June or July we will get a month of free transactions for all payments on the machine. This may not be a big saving given the time of year and I do not know how many members have an AMEX card but we might make some money from it.

We received the email below from Home Instead who are a care at home company. They have opened an office on Town Street Horsforth and are inviting our members to drop in. I cannot vouch for the company but thought one or two might be interested.

    https://www.opforum.org.uk/get-involved/become-an-age-friendly-ambassador/

The linka above takes you to details of the Ambassador programme as described below.

Ambassadors are people of any age who are committed to making Leeds a great city to grow old in. All you need is passion for the cause, of making Leeds an Age Friendly City, where the huge contribution of older adults, as workers, adult carers, taxpayers, volunteers, campaigners, child carers etc, is fully acknowledged.  It’s a flexible role, it’s up to you how much time you commit. It can range from sharing Age Friendly messages, stories and images, to getting actively involved in campaigns such as getting older adults online, increasing uptake of benefits or getting more active.

And you won’t be on your own, and it is fun! We have regular ambassador get togethers, some are themed around issues such as ‘Ageing Well’, others we just meet up for a cuppa, play a bit of sport (we are in the process of setting up walking football and netball teams!) and have a chat, about how people are finding the role etc.

There are also a range of other projects ran by Leeds Older Peoples Forum projects that Ambassadors can get involved in, including

    • BOSS, The ‘be online and stay safe project’ that provides digital sessions around online safety
    • Men’s Health projects
    • Administering grant programmes
    • The Equalities’ hub for older people-this is a series of meeting held every month, in different parts of the city, designed to let older people have their say, i.e. a great opportunity for the older generation to make sure there voice is heard
    • The Age Friendly Steering group-a group of very active older adults who are supported by LOPF in their efforts to make sure the needs of older adults are always considered (e.g. they were official consultees in the refurbishment of Leeds train station, making sure the refurb, in terms of design, accessibility, imagery etc was ‘Age Friendly’

So lots that you people can get involved in, and becoming an Ambassador could be a big part of that!
