Professor Mike Dixon has produced several studies relating to Ilkley where he lives. These are of historical and medical interest. 

This presentation is a richly illustrated history of Ilkley and the major reasons for its growth: namely, the introduction of "The Water Cure" in the mid 19th century at the great Ben Rhydding Hydropathic Hotel and the subsequent building of several other Hydros, the town's increasing reputation as a health resort, and finally the arrival of the railway and the impetus to house building.It is a story of the transformation of a minor inland spa into the elegant town of today.
